Walking Tours

Get Your Steps In

While getting around Pontiac by car is certainly easy, it’s equally easy to get around on foot! These walking tours provide a fantastic way to get up close and personal with each attraction along the way — and they’re also a great way to see the sights if you’re here after hours or other times the museums aren’t open. See the different routes below or come to town and start walking! Special thanks to Pontiac Parks and Rec for creating these maps!

Downtown Loop

Starting in the free parking at 115 W. Howard St., take a loop through Downtown to view many of our attractions, retail locations, and several murals. This loop is approximately 0.9 miles.

Downtown Bonus Loop

This tour takes you past the same great sights as the Downtown Loop, but adds the scenic Humiston Riverside Park, guiding tourists past the train station, through Fell Park, and past several Downtown businesses. This loop is approximately half a mile longer than the Downtown Loop.

Mural Loop

Starting in the free parking lot at 115 W. Howard St. and take a loop to see all our larger-than-life Murals on Main Street. Most of these murals were completed in 2009 when the Walldogs — an international group of muralists, sign painters, and artists — spent a week in Pontiac creating them. This loop is 1.25 miles.

Lincoln Loop

This 1.75-mile loop takes you back in time and lets you walk in the footprints of Abraham Lincoln. Our nation’s 16th president visited Pontiac several times throughout his life. Our nine wayside exhibits detail those visits and offer a little more insight into his life and times.

Museums and Historical Homes Loop

This 1.1-mile tour takes you past all four museums as well as all three Historic Homes. Though the homes are only open select times throughout the year, their beautifully renovated exteriors and well-kept landscapes are worth seeing.

Play and Chautauqua Loop

Just outside Downtown, this 1.35-mile loop guides guests through two parks and over the two oldest Swinging Bridges. Heads up — this route also passes through the Disc Golf Course!
