The City of Pontiac’s office of tourism recently announced that the Illinois District of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association will soon visit Pontiac as part of the organization’s annual summer rally. From July 21st through July 23rd, as many as 250 Gold Wing riders will be here in Pontiac. Planning for this event began more than 14 months ago, and there are many events planned for the riders, as well as a few events that will be open to the public. The GWRRA is one of the largest motorcycle groups in the world with membership exceeding 72,000. It is primarily a social organization formed for the pleasure, recreation, safety, and promotion of camaraderie and friendship among its members and the public. The Illinois District is composed of 23 Chapters with over 2,000 members. The Illinois District holds two rallies per year, one in winter, and this, the summer rally.
On the evening of Friday, July 22nd, the public is invited to join the Gold Wing Riders on the downtown square for some special activities. The Riders will have their motorcycles on parked display around the courthouse, and the Kiwanis Club will be selling delicious food beginning around 5 PM. At approximately 7:45 PM, the Gold Wing Riders will commence a “Lighted Parade” through selected streets in Pontiac. With each motorcycle decked out with state flags and LED lighting, this will be a visual treat you won’t want to miss.
For the three days of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association’s rally, we can expect to see many new faces, lots of cool bikes, and a smile on everyone’s face. We welcome the GWRRA and hope they enjoy great weather and a safe and fun rally in Pontiac.
